Kikla and Cabao Fm

Period:
Cretaceous

Age Interval:
Berriasian – Albian, Lb1

Province:
Libya

Type Locality and Naming

Column: Tripolitania and Sirte Basin

Synonym: Chicla Fm, Kabaw Fm

Lithology and Thickness

Also spelled "Chicla" and "Kabaw" formations, this unit has been redefined to include the underlying Chameau Mort Sandstone and a Giosc Shale unit, due to much controversy over an unconformity below the Sidi as Sid formation. Composed of mudstone, sandstones, and conglomerates which were most likely deposited in a braided river system carrying high sediment loads. Cross-bedding is common. Poorly cemented.

Lithology Pattern:
Coarse-grained sandstone

Relationships and Distribution
